Designed for an intimate group of eclipse chasers and intrepid travelers, this astronomical polar odyssey will transport you to the remotest reaches of our globe for a chance to witness a celestial event rarely witnessed on the White Continent –  a total solar eclipse.

Our route will follow in the path of the courageous explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton – visiting unique places that have amazed and inspired scientists, explorers, and sightseers alike for over a century.

Antarctica contains more than 90% of the earth’s land ice, spectacularly displayed in sharp snowy peaks among mountainous fjords, colossal blue glaciers, and roaming icebergs. This unique frozen desert is rich in biodiversity and home to some of the most well-known wildlife on earth, including emperor penguins, leopard seals, orcas, albatross and blue whales.

Our ice-strengthened expedition ship will provide an intimate and education experience throughout the cruise, with highly experienced on-board Antarctic experts and Zodiac small group landings to fully immerse in this extraordinary landscape and observe the incredible wildlife. Unlike most of the other modern arctic vessels, we will have an unrivaled view of totality from the vast flat open deck, ensuring the best viewing experience for all.

Not only will this be a once-in-a- lifetime expedition to one of the most majestic landscapes on the planet;  we also uniquely position ourselves within the remote path of totality to behold the alignment of the Sun, Moon and Earth in a rare and transformative moment of a total solar eclipse. This unique expedition to the White Continent will be led by Dr. Kate Russo, who is a leading authority on the human experience of totality.

Special Early Bird Pricing – for a limited time enjoy $1,000 off per person while availability lasts.

Dr. Kate Russo  is an author, psychologist and eclipse chaser currently based in her home region of North Queensland, Australia.

A Clinical Psychologist and phenomenological researcher by profession, Kate has made it her mission to understand why seeing a total solar eclipse is so frequently described as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. She has authored several books on the topic, including, Being in the Shadow: Stories of the First-Time Total Eclipse Experience, and continues to capture stories of the lived experience of totality as well as provide leadership to communities within the path of totality.

Kate believes a total solar eclipse is not just an astronomical event, but is a nature event that can be appreciated by all.  She encourages everyone to follow her lead and experience the awe and wonder of being in the Moon’s shadow.

From glacial hiking on icy peaks and active volcanos to cruising among the icebergs, fuel your adventurous spirit while you discover the wonders of one of the most remote and breathtaking regions of the planet, including visits to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic peninsula.

Extraordinary Wildlife

Walk along ice sheets with fledgling penguin chicks; watch majestic humpback whales perform with their enormous flippers; see hungry and mischievous seals via Zodiac boat; and snowshoe to gorgeous overlooks while graceful birds, including the blue-eyed shag, wandering albatross and polar skua, fly overhead.

For the very few eclipse-chasers who make this journey, December 4, 2021 will be a landmark moment, witnessing this natural marvel from one of the most remote and breathtaking regions on the planet. Our vessel has selected the best possible observation position east of South Orkney, near the centreline within the path of totality, where the Sun is 11 degrees above the horizon. Our vessel is one of the few expedition ships that allow for a 360-degree horizon view of totality, ensuring the best view of this wondrous phenomenon.

Renowned Leadership

Dr. Russo has devoted her life to chasing total solar eclipses around the globe, and has done so already for over two decades. Kate’s tours are especially suited to those who do not have a strong astronomy background, due to her expertise in the human experience of totality and her involvement in community eclipse planning.  She forms strong networks across the path of totality, and is then able to offer unique insights and experiences for her tour participants that are not available to other astronomy tour groups.
