November 26th - December 15th, 2021

Designed for a small group of the most intrepid travelers and space enthusiasts, this once in a lifetime polar odyssey will transport us to the end of the Earth for a celestial event rarely witnessed on the White Continent. Antarctica has beckoned scientists, explorers, and adventurers alike for two centuries as one of the most extraordinary and significant destinations on the planet.

On this remarkable 20-day Expedition, join Paul Cox, Chief Astronomical Officer at Slooh, alongside fellow explorers to experience the remote wonders of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula. Behold the alignment of the Sun, Earth, and Moon in a transformative moment of Totality, and get a behind the scenes look at Slooh's legendary Astronomy "Star Parties" - broadcasted live to tens of millions of people worldwide.

Join us as we push the boundaries of polar and space exploration.

Follow the footsteps of legends

We follow in the footsteps of legendary explorers, like Sir Ernest Shackleton, to the one remaining continent on the planet which belongs to all of humanity.

Departing from the southernmost tip of South America, Ushuaia, set sail across the famed Drake Passage, to the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula. Enjoy several days exploring the continent, with numerous noteworthy landings including Elephant Island, Shackleton’s infamous harsh winter-camp before skirting the Weddell Sea, the birthplace of the mighty tabular icebergs.

Our voyage continues onwards into the Path of Totality for for a rare and magical celestial moment, a Total Solar Eclipse. Following this wondrous phenomenon, we make our way toward the wildlife paradise of South Georgia, and to the historic Falkland Islands.

Chief Astronomical Officer, Slooh

Slooh is a global community of astronomy and space enthusiasts, hosting live online celestial events, as well as providing its members special access to control the world's most most powerful telescopes and observatories from home. Sharing knowledge and expertise and a passion for the cosmos is at the heart of Slooh's global community.

As Slooh's Chief Astronomical Officer, Paul fosters collaboration between members and observatories around the world; whether that's tracking Near-Earth Asteroids, comets, or creating stunning astro images. As Slooh's globetrotting astronomer, Paul has helped bring nature's most awe-inspiring astronomical moments to millions of viewers, including fantastical displays of the Northern Lights and spectacular eclipses. Paul is honored to bring his astronomical expertise and knowledge to this very special expedition, where we will enjoy stargazes and educational lectures on a variety of astronomy topics throughout the voyage.

We will also be joined by highly experienced Antarctica experts and expedition leaders who will present lectures and workshops ranging from marine wildlife, ecology, climate change, and the history of the various locations we visit.

Trip Highlights

Visit this unparalleled destination during its most active wildlife season. Walk along ice sheets with fledgling penguin chicks of various varieties; watch majestic humpback whales perform with their enormous flippers; see hungry and mischievous seals via Zodiac boat; and snowshoe to gorgeous overlooks while graceful birds, including the blue-eyed shag, wandering albatross and polar skua, fly overhead.

For the very few eclipse-chasers who make this journey, December 4, 2021 will be a landmark moment, witnessing this natural marvel from one of the most remote and breathtaking regions on the planet. Our vessel has selected the best possible observation position in the center of the shadow of the moon, and if possible, some distance into the Scotia Sea drift ice. The ice edge will be about 60°S, 41°W.

Cruise along blue icebergs and inaccessible rugged coastlines of penguin colonies. Discover stunning views of remote ridgelines, glaciated terrain, and snow-topped peaks. The most pristine and isolated sites in Antarctica are accessible only by Zodiac, and our private guides will take us to hidden gems throughout the journey.

Cruise in one of Antarctica’s newest, most modern vessels. The M/V Hondius is the most structurally and technologically advanced class of polar ship to date, designed from the ground up for rapid response to changing weather and wildlife conditions. Also one of the most environmentally friendly vessels on the polar seas, utilizing LED lighting, steam heating, and state-of-the-art systems to keep fuel consumption and CO2 levels minimal while offering all the luxuries of the first Polar 6 Class Ship to sail in Antarctica.
